Chicago-based non-profit, The Strangers, is a powerhouse early music ensemble created in the summer of 2016. Spearheaded by Artistic Director Josh R. Pritchett and Co-Founder Allison Selby Cook, the ensemble that began as a 1 time audition group expanded into the non-profit ensemble it is today.
The Strangers collaborate with other award-winning early music musicians and ensembles such as Music of the Baroque, Chicago Bach Project, Haymarket Opera, The Marion Consort, Grant Park Chorus, among others.
Today, The Strangers have announced a new expansion to their organization: The Emerging Artist Program.
This new project aims to bridge the gap between academia and professional union level work for singers, instrumentalists, conductors, composers, directors, musicologists, and other artists interested in early music.
A post on The Strangers Facebook page provides more details about their up-and-coming Emerging Artist Program:
“An Emerging Artist can be as involved as they feel equipped, and will be held to the highest standard of professionalism, all while being paid. Each featured Emerging Artist will leave with a review of their work, along with Video and Audio recordings to use for audition purposes for the Next Step Up.”
The Strangers will be holding a Mid-Winter fundraising concert at the Chicago Temple on Sunday January 21st in support of this new expansion. The 4pm concert will feature Emerging Artists Francisco Lopez Malespin, cello, and conductor Luke Duroc-Danner. Admission is free with a $10 suggested donation.
