The Cell Phones have a new EP out through Chicago cassette label littleHEADbutt. Released October 2, Bean Salad is the band’s third EP and sixth release, arriving in a run of 111 purple-swirl tapes.
The band recorded at Electrical Audio in fall 2025, with Brian Fox engineering and mixing. The Cell Phones and Donnie Moore produced the release, and Carl Saff mastered it. The credited lineup is Lindsey on vocals, Ryan on bass and Justin on drums.
In their release statement, the band locates the songs in the dread, anger and uncertainty of the years after COVID arrived, while also holding onto the possibility of having fun together. Their account of nearly two decades of playing puts friendship and continued collaboration at the center of the project.
The label page presents the recording as two cassette sides, with a link to the band’s track-by-track edition.
littleHEADbutt, run by A. Barlow and J. Jamais, also offers a route into releases by French Inhaler, Bussy Kween Power Trip and other local acts. Start with Bean Salad, then follow the label’s catalog outward.
