Kokandy Productions has added four weeks of performances to its revival of Sunday in the Park with George, extending the run through November 29, 2026, at the Chopin Downstairs Studio, 1543 W. Division St. The company announced the extension after selling out the original run.
Kevin Webb plays George and Missy Wise Vanderzee plays Dot/Marie in the musical, which has a book by James Lapine and music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. Producing Artistic Director Derek Van Barham directs and choreographs, with music direction by Nick Sula.
Inspired by Georges Seurat’s A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte, the musical connects the demands of making art with the relationships that surround it. Its movement between past and present examines what artists inherit, what they leave behind and how they connect with other people.
In the company’s announcement, Van Barham describes the production as an opportunity to consider what Kokandy has created and what its artists still hope to make. He also emphasizes the immediate experience of sharing a room and a work of art with an audience.
Performances are scheduled Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 7 p.m. and Sundays at 5 p.m. There is no Thanksgiving performance November 26; an additional performance is scheduled November 25 at 7 p.m.
Tickets, including processing fees, are $55.20 for general admission, $65.87 for reserved seating and $44.52 for students and seniors. A limited number of lower-priced artist tickets are offered with the code ARTIST. Visit Kokandy Productions for availability.
