A newspaper advertisement invites the residents of an English village to a murder, with a time and place attached. When someone actually dies, Miss Marple arrives to untangle the invitation’s consequences. That is the premise of A Murder Is Announced, the Agatha Christie mystery opening Saint Sebastian Players’ 45th season.

The Chicago production begins previews Oct. 23–25 at the company’s home on the lower level of St. Bonaventure. Opening night is Thursday, Oct. 29, and the run continues through Nov. 15, with no performance on Halloween.

Aliza Feder makes her Saint Sebastian Players directing debut. Her earlier directing work includes La Trout Lily with New Moon Opera, an adaptation of Miss Julie for Fermat’s Last Theater in Madison and Held Together at 2nd Story, according to the company’s announcement.

Abby McEntee plays Miss Marple. The production team includes set designer Emil Zbella, costume designer Grace M. Weir and lighting designer Lex Newman. Sean Smyth handles sound design and stage management and co-produces with Jim Masini.

The mystery starts a season that later includes Geoffrey Nauffts’ Next Fall in February 2027 and Larry Shue’s The Foreigner in April and May. Three-play subscriptions are also available.

Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m.; the Oct. 29 opening begins at 7:30 p.m. Standard tickets are $30 for previews and $35 for the regular run. Seniors and children younger than 12 pay $25 for previews and $30 afterward. Students with valid identification can buy those discounted tickets at the door.

St. Bonaventure is at 1625 W. Diversey Parkway, with entrance on Marshfield. The theater is reachable only by stairs, with no elevator. Free parking is available in two church lots. Buy tickets at SSP’s box office; production details and visitor information are on the company’s website.
