Chicago vocalist and songwriter Sacha Mullin is introducing his fourth solo album, Social Touch, with “Hypocenter,” a single featuring vocalist Emily Bindiger. Dipterid Records announced that the album will arrive October 19, with a release celebration that evening at Café Mustache alongside Bret Koontz and Sponj.
The label describes “Hypocenter” as a move toward a more direct pop setting, carrying Mullin’s experience in art-rock, jazz and experimental music into synthesizer-driven arrangements. Its announcement emphasizes the theatrical approach to singing that has remained part of his work across those different settings.
Bindiger, whose credits include work with Leonard Cohen and Cowboy Bebop, joins Mullin on the track. The single is also available as a limited-edition seven-inch record, paired with “Voodoo,” a B-side the label says will not be released on streaming services.
Mullin has worked across Chicago’s music community for more than two decades, according to the label’s biography. The forthcoming album places that history alongside a new set of pop songs, with the hometown release show bringing the project back to a local stage.
Listen to “Hypocenter” and find the album through Mullin’s Bandcamp page. The announcement names October 19 for the Café Mustache celebration; check the artist’s updates for show details.
