Samuel Virgo turns inward on self-produced single “Slip Away”

Samuel Virgo’s new single “Slip Away” centers on the feeling of losing yourself as you move into and out of love. The Sheffield-born, London-based musician wrote, produced and engineered the track himself, according to its release announcement.

“I wanted it to feel intimate with the vocals, guitars and understated production,” Virgo says in the press materials. That intention places the song among the more vulnerable moments on his forthcoming EP.

The release follows “ICU,” which introduced the project through questions about distorted narratives and perception. “Slip Away” shifts the focus toward relationships, while the EP as a whole is described as exploring identity, growing up and personal experience.

After several years releasing music as Svirgo19, Virgo began working under his own name. His biography connects that change to a more personal approach to songwriting, drawing on indie, alternative, hip-hop and post-punk influences without treating those traditions as separate lanes.

His performance history includes headline shows at The Finsbury and Temple of Art and Music, and his work has received support from BBC Introducing Sheffield, according to the announcement. The new single adds another piece to the EP’s developing picture; a release date for the full project was not included in the materials.
