Sid Seth’s single “Precious Gift” grew out of a song he could not finish while his mother was still alive. According to the release announcement, the singer-songwriter wrote its chorus as her health declined, then returned to the material after her death.
“All I want is for there to be a way this song could reach my mom,” Seth said in the announcement.
The song’s history stretches across those two periods: anticipating a loss, then trying to give it words afterward. The press materials describe a guitar-led arrangement with layered harmonies and understated production, placing the emphasis on Seth’s account of grief and love.
Based between Ahmedabad, India, and New York City, Seth is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who moved to New York to study at the Manhattan School of Music. His performance background includes appearances at Rockwood Music Hall, Bowery Electric, Feinstein’s 54 Below and The Green Room, along with Sofar Sounds tours in the United States and India, according to his biography.
The announcement also describes recording the single as part of his return to performing. Working with a close group of collaborators helped him find the confidence to take the stage again after his mother’s death. As he shared the song, listeners began responding with experiences from their own lives.
