Chicago’s Pinksqueeze has put its politics in the title of its September 23 single: “The Gay Agenda.” The song is part of the lead-up to the band’s second album, We Can Have It, announced for October.

The published lyrics connect queer safety and bodily autonomy with access to healthcare, opposition to war and a challenge to concentrated wealth and power. The agenda here reaches beyond visibility into the conditions people need to live.

Pinksqueeze describes its music as sapphic power pop and punk. According to the band’s history, April Hickey and Ava Marvin began the project in 2018; the full band took shape in 2021 with bassist and visual artist Anna White and drummer Logan Greenfield. All four contribute to songwriting and lead or supporting vocals.

The album follows 2023’s Be Gay, Have Fun. Pinksqueeze’s website also lists a December 12 release show at Lincoln Hall, giving Chicago listeners a later chance to hear this chapter in person.
