A label compilation can be a useful answer to the question of where to start. 10 Years of Sooper Records, released April 1, gathers 22 tracks from the Chicago label’s first decade and is available as a free digital download through its store.
The sequence includes NNAMDÏ’s “Bullseye,” Luke Titus’s “Sideline,” Monobody’s “Atala,” Sen Morimoto’s “American TV” and KAINA’s “Joei’s Secret.” Other contributors include Alicia Walter, Lynyn, Carlile, Jodi, Warm Human, Woongi, This Is Lorelei, Pile and Miranda Winters.
That breadth makes the release a practical listening map: pick a track that catches you, then follow its artist into a longer recording. It is also a reminder that a local label’s community can extend well beyond one lineup, genre or city of residence.
Sen Morimoto sequenced the compilation. NNAMDÏ/NoClone made the cover art, Jess Myers Rigoni handled layout, and Steve Marek mastered the CD edition.
