Music Theater Works is adding community performances, conversations and accessibility programming to its upcoming production of Jimmy Buffett’s Escape to Margaritaville. The musical runs October 8–November 1, 2026, in the North Theatre at the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts in Skokie, 9501 Skokie Blvd.
The opening-night program on October 9 begins with the Na Kupuna Ukulele Club performing in the lobby from 6:30 to 7 p.m., before the 7 p.m. curtain. The Chicago-based Hawaiian-American group formed in 1997 and is expected to bring about 20 performers, according to the company’s announcement.
Musical theater historian Thomas M. Shea will lead Behind the Curtain discussions after the 2 p.m. performances on October 11 and 18. The October 24 performance at 7:30 p.m. will include American Sign Language interpretation. The special events are included with admission to the corresponding performance.
With a book by Greg Garcia and Mike O’Malley and music and lyrics by Buffett, the musical follows island singer Tully and vacationing professional Rachel as their lives intersect at a beachfront resort. Brenda Didier directs and choreographs, with co-director Sarafina Vecchio, co-choreographer Clayton Cross and music director Linda Madonia.
The company is also highlighting its TicketREACH program, which distributes free tickets through local nonprofits, community organizations and libraries. Lobby exhibits will introduce audiences to Buffett-associated organizations Singing for Change and Save The Manatee.
Tickets are listed at $19.50–$106, with half-price tickets for guests age 25 and younger. Visit the production page or call 847-673-6300 for tickets and the performance calendar.
