Riders of the #50 Damen bus will need to check their boarding locations before Monday, November 16. A CTA service alert lists stop changes beginning at 9 a.m. that day, with the end date marked to be determined.
The alert lists 13 stop eliminations and one separate relocation. Several changes affect only one direction of travel, so a familiar intersection name alone will not tell riders which corner to use.
Stops being removed
The replacement locations below follow CTA’s alert. Northbound and southbound refer to the direction of the bus; corner descriptions identify the boarding location.
| Removed stop | Board instead |
|---|---|
| Damen/Hubbard, southbound, northwest corner | Damen/Grand, southwest corner |
| Damen/Hubbard, northbound, southeast corner | Damen/Grand, southeast corner |
| Damen/Fulton, southbound, northwest corner | Damen/Carroll, northwest corner |
| Damen/Fulton, northbound, southeast corner | Damen/Carroll, southeast corner |
| Damen/Taylor, southbound, southwest corner | VA Medical Center stop |
| Damen/Roosevelt, northbound, southeast corner | Damen/Roosevelt, northeast corner |
| Damen/Hastings, southbound, northwest corner | Damen/13th, northwest corner |
| Damen/Hastings, northbound, southeast corner | Damen/13th, southeast corner |
| Damen/14th, southbound, northwest corner | Damen/13th, northwest corner |
| Damen/14th, northbound, northeast corner | Damen/13th, southeast corner |
| Damen/Coulter, southbound, northeast corner | Damen/23rd, northwest corner, or Damen/Blue Island, northwest corner |
| 2501 S. Damen, northbound, midblock | 2559 S. Damen or Damen/Blue Island |
| 2501 S. Damen, southbound, midblock | 2608 S. Damen |
The Blue Island relocation
The southbound Damen/Blue Island stop is moving from the southwest corner to the northwest corner. CTA lists that change as a relocation, separately from the stops being eliminated.
For the two midblock stops at 2501 S. Damen, use the direction-specific alternatives above. The northbound and southbound replacement addresses are different.
What the notice establishes
CTA says the changes are intended to improve service delivery. The notice establishes the new boarding arrangements; it does not demonstrate that riders have already received faster trips.
For a rider carrying groceries or using a mobility device, the trip includes getting to the new stop. The alert does not supply walking-distance measurements or an assessment of each changed crossing, so those effects remain a reporting question.
Check the current CTA alert before traveling on November 16, especially if your usual stop appears in the table. Plan around the replacement for your direction of travel rather than assuming the stop across the street is changing in the same way.
