Samuel Virgo's Laughing in the Wilderness brings two EPs into one album. The Sheffield-born, London-based artist combines the earlier Virgo with Virgo II, according to press materials supplied to Scapi.
Virgo II ends with “The Word,” though it was one of the first tracks written for the project. That order puts an early idea at the close of the EP.
The release describes its instrumentation as influenced by Arctic Monkeys and presents it as an indie-alt-hip-hop song about how a single word can change everything.
“ICU,” another track on the project, takes up the power of a narrative to hide the truth. “I wrote it about the way the world spins narratives, deceives us and hides the truth from us,” Virgo said in the release.
Scapi previously covered “Slip Away” ahead of the EP. The album now places those previously released songs within the larger two-EP project.
