A Red Orchid stages the Chicago premiere of Heroes of the Fourth Turning

A Red Orchid Theatre will open its 34th season with the Chicago premiere of Will Arbery’s Heroes of the Fourth Turning. Directed by ensemble member dado, the production begins previews October 29 and runs through December 6, 2026, at the company’s Old Town theater, 1531 N. Wells St.

The play brings four recent graduates of a small Catholic liberal arts college together in Wyoming to celebrate their former professor Gina’s appointment as college president. As the gathering stretches toward midnight, disagreements over faith, politics and belonging turn the reunion into a struggle to understand one another.

Ensemble member Kirsten Fitzgerald plays Gina, joined by Magdalena Dalzell as Emily, Isa Grofsorean as Teresa, Beck Nolan as Kevin and Nate Santana as Justin. The production forms part of a season organized around the theme “world on fire,” according to the theater’s announcement.

The design team includes Grant Sabin on scenery, Madeleine Shows on costumes, Josiah Croegaert on lighting and Ethan Korvne on composition and sound. Caroline Michele Uy serves as dramaturg.

Preview performances are scheduled October 29–30 and November 1, 5 and 6. The public opening is November 8 at 6 p.m., following November 7 press performances. Regular performances run Thursdays and Fridays at 7 p.m., Saturdays at 3 and 7 p.m., and Sundays at 3 p.m., with calendar exceptions and an added November 23 industry night.

Tickets are listed at $33–$44 for previews and $55 for the regular run, including processing fees. Access, student, senior and group discounts are available. Visit A Red Orchid Theatre or call 312-943-8722 for the full schedule and tickets.
